Wiki Disabled Features

Some features of the wiki engine have been disabled.

Of course, debate is open. Please add your counterarguments here next to each feature or voice them on the user mailing lists. If the community decides otherwise some of these features will be re-enabled, totally or partially.

Rendering raw HTML is too much of a security risk and offers ample possibilities for misbehaviour.

Transclusions (including a page into another via a macro) is also prone to misbehaviour.

Rendering of image links (links ending in an image extension will appear as those images they refer). This can also be used improperly, most often by turning the wiki into a screenshot parade. There are many galleries sporting Blackbox screenshots, there's no use putting them up on the wiki.

Curly options in tables (they are still allowed in WikiHelp/WikiMacros). These are options that will allow someone to apply special formatting (rowspan, colspan, alignment) to cells as well as change their aspect (color of text and background, use of CSS classes and style). If there's really a use for these, we can consider bringing back at least the formatting part.

Page name character filtering. Certain characters, deemed as "undesirable" by this wiki's administrator, are forbidden from being used as page names and/or free links. This is an original feature not present in the original 'Tavi engine. Attempting to use such characters in free links will render the link in an unusable form. Example: {page name with spaces in it}!!. Similarly, bad characters in page names will be filtered out before doing anything with the name. Example: try to forcefully edit page name with spaces in it* and notice how spaces are gone when you get there. This is not as much a disabled feature as a safety measure. Limiting the character set used for wiki links and pages eliminates misbehaviour such as creating an all-spaces page name.

Disabled the rendering of strikethrough a.k.a. <del> via -- markers as well as of underline a.k.a. <ins> via ++ markers. They are never used for formatting and they produce unintended formatting when used in regular text such as C++ or --signature.
